Sorry about that. I've got a plug out and grounded with no spark. I did pull the shrouds to clean it so it's possible that I pinched something. If I did I should be able to confirm it by checking continuity. I really don't want to pull the engine again, it is a tight fit

Continuity check to ground should tell you.

Or, try unhooking the wire like I said earlier.

Unhook the kill wire and if you don't have spark when you crank it over you will be pulling the engine out.

disconnected the wire, no spark. I pulled the engine out and found the wire going to the far side burnt off. I have continuity between the laminated part of the mag and the kill wire connector. that doesn't seem right.

Sounds like you put B+ to the mag.

Did it ruin the mag?

Did you take the wire off and see if you had spark?

i'll try and check it now. it doesn't seem like there should be continuity between the kill post and the laminations.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
