You may already know it but the hub caps and electric lift may be worth more than you paid for the whole tractor!
Thanks Rick. Too late for that wax it option. See additional pictures in a moment.
I did have one other person mention that the hub cabs are valuable. These are quite pitted up, but I suspect would clean up well with chrome cleaner. Haven't had a chance to dig into them yet. Other priorities!
About the electric lift - is it a good piece? If it is rare and valuable, does that mean that I can expect it to fail? It works perfectly right now, but I notice that there are no cutoff switches at each end of its travel so I'm careful not to keep the switch engaged when it bottoms out.
As for the price, well that was the best part of all. It was a "come and take it" kinda deal!

That's great news for me then!

PS what were the flanges on the rear of the frame? Never seen those before.
I'm not really sure what the flanges are for. They look like they would be an ideal mounting notch to set a weight box into to counterbalance a new front loader.

Default Today's progress

Today was spent running between blasting sites. I dropped off the bigger pieces for professional cleaning and then took boxes of smaller parts to a local garage where I used their large blast cabinet. Pictures to follow.
Here, the engine and hydro/axle get a more thorough cleaning and degreasing. Not sure how to go about painting the hydro. Looks like that will be the hardest part.

Now here is where progress may slow down a bit. Tomorrow I actually have to go to the office and put in an appearance. I was planning on attending a local gun club meeting tomorrow evening (not my club, but one I support). I'm thinking I might blow it off though to keep this project going. We'll see.
Thanks to all who commented. Any advice or suggestions will be much appreciated along the way!

Hi Donovan,
I'm in Ontario. I do a lot of work in Canandaigua, Gorham, South Bristol and Naples. I used to boat Canandaigua Lake pretty regularly, but nowadays I keep my boat in Sodus Bay.
Nice looking old Cub you got there!

Leave the hydro pump unpainted. The rest can be painted as a whole unit. Great time to replace any leaky seals and clean out the rear end. Your making awesome progress. Make sure you don't forget to have clean grounds when your painting. It's easier to tape those areas off not then try and remove paint without damaging the paint near by. BTDT and it sucks!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
