Internal or external?
Getting ready to purchase a rear end for my 1250. I have the choice of an internal or external brake rear end, same price. Im thinking about the internal brake rear end so I won't have to worry about wheel offsets. My question is do most internal rears have fine or course splines? I hear the fine spline is better for pulling.

The only CI rears that have fine-spline axles are the early CCC-production ones that were made during the 82 series. All IH-built CI rears have coarse-spline axles.

Do you think a coarse spline will hold up for pulling? I plan to put a lot $ in this rear and would hate for it to break an axle

Are you buying a gear drive rear end? The reason I'm asking, is because I've heard the hydros aren't the best for pulling.

Yes, i am buying a 3-speed with reverse for pulling. The hydro that is in my 1250 is going to my dad for a build he is working on.

Run it till you break it, then upgrade to a 7.25" chrysler carrier and axles.

Will the 7.25 carrier and fit inside a cub housing, or would i need to buy a complete diff. instead of buying a cub rear end? I just want my money "well spent".

It will fit into the cub cadet transaxle with minor modification. Read here for more information on doing that swap: http://garden tractor pulling tips.com/transaxl.htm#rearend (remove the spaces from the url) Anyone trying to build a puller for the first time should read his entire website, it's been extremely beneficial to me.

Be careful with that website. There is a LOT of incorrect information in the transaxle section with regards to which tractors and models came with fine spline axles and which size fine-spline axles. I don't trust the driveshaft lengths he provides, either...they have led me astray more than once.
