Thanks George. I am going with 10W40. I was just wondering if 15W40 would be acceptable since it is so much more widely available than 10W40 or 15W50. But, yah, I can find some 10W40 for a decent price and will just go with that.

I've used the f&f stuff in several cub rears without issue.
I've also used 5w30 diesel engine oil in them.
I had a case 621 we were dumping gallons of hi tran in every week, finally got a case mobile guy to come over and fix it. When he was done he was filling it up with 15/40. He said that's all they ever use at the dealership.

When I get around to it this spring, I will be going with 10W40 or 15W40. Probably Rotella 15W40 full Synthetic.
Thanks to everyone who lent opinions and advice. I will try very hard to remember to come back and report how things go once I get the trans welded up and refilled.

I extensively use this and hadn't had any issues. It's a few generations of Hy-Tran behind, but then again so are these elder cubs.

Yours is an oddball...the F&F stuff is good for the garden tractors where Hy-Tran is the spec oil.
