History Section
A section that outlines the history of each cub cadet, including serial numbers for each model, and a description of what upgrades or highlights for each tractor. That way, an enthusiast could look up his/her tractor and get an idea of some useful information about it. For instance, one of the facts that I found interesting about the originals is that the production was so popular that they ended up wearing out the molds for the frames or the modifications of the narrow frame done on the 147 to accommodate a larger engine in order to compete with other companies (like wheel horse) who were increasing the engine size in their tractors. This section could be kind of like Wikipedia, where modifications could be done by members but there wouldn't be multiple threads, just maybe a member's name next to the part that they added...also allowing for accountability of information. The section would be included in the technical section of the library, as a reference section. Perhaps each section could also include a factory picture of the production line of the cub cadet model or other historical aspect of the model. Well, just thinking out loud. Let me know what you think!

Thanks fellas. I have a book that references the cub cadets, but it doesn't seem to picture one of each model or give a detailed description for each model. I didn't mean anything as elaborate as a book, just a picture or maybe even a picture of a member's restored cub and a brief write up of some factual information about it, including serial numbers, for quick reference. I just thought that having that for quick reference might be handy to have.

!
How does it compare to Ken Updike's books? I have a book written by him on IH tractors and it's GREAT! The odd thing is, there seem to be two cub cadet books he wrote. They have the same title, but different pics on the front, and different ISBN numbers. One book is about $40... The other, $175!!! Anybody know anything about that?
I'll find out about the 50 year book. I ordered it today! |

Yes, both Hank Will and Ken Updyke have written CC books. Some are into second printing. I guess it comes down to which author you like.
Personally, I prefer Hank Will's publications. BTW.....I am working on restoring a project that was once around the Cub world and hope to have this online within a couple of weeks.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
