Looking forward to some pics. The dealer my dad retired from didn't sell too many of them compared to the 6 and 782 models. I think folks were leaning toward the bigger engine and the hydro. During the time when those were built they only sold one 582 special and one 982, it took a couple years to move those. The 382, 682,and 782 models would somehow sell themselves almost. The 582 would sell easily to anyone wanting a new version of their old reliable gear drive.

So, whats the plan, mow grass, garden work, backup for when everything else is broke, trailer queen?

It has some issues. It won't shut off with the key and will only run with the choke wide until it gets warm then it kind of runs.

You got a good deal I think. Your problems sound pretty minor. Congrats!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
