Question

I put the bearing grease on the chain. I think it needs more. I scraped out a good cupful of grease with the putty knife alone. It seems to me they need filled with grease below the line in the one pic with something thin enough to collect in the bottom over time but thick enough it don't leak out readidly. I want to get the grease at least close to right. I can get it in through a bearing hole in the case if I just pull a bearing. They come off easy enough now. What I know about different lubes is next to nothing. What would fit the bill? Even a guess would help. Maybe it don't need filled that much??????

Thanks Duke. Those tines really need a torch to get good and hot but other than that it wasn't to hard. Figuring out the "how to" was the hardest part. Dealing with the unknown. Now I need to figure out the lube. Any ideas?

Thanks guys. No worries there. I'll use it like I stole it in short order. It rubs the case near the belt tensioner. That soft paint won't hold up. Pics to come.

You have a great looking tiller that you know is fully functional and should be good for another 40 years too.
Yea looks way to nice to chew up dirt. You need to put it on the shoiw circut for a while.
I figured you were in your shop, on a sugar high with all that syrup, anticipating what you were going to come out with next. Yea, I think it was worth it. I believe I will get around to doing that Model 1 Tiller in time. Maybe wright up a proper "How To" with it. If I do, it'll be dressed out with all stainless. This one's scratched already. I went a little to thick with the seal for the case but it would rub there anyway. The washers on the arm worked nicely. I'll get some pics of that. I don't expect it will rub there. I'll have to give the belt tensioner some thought before taking on the Model 1. I already have an idea though. I'll have to bounce it off Doug before he gets that far.

I hope I got the belt tensioner right. I still need to clean up the chain for the lift and get it on. Here's few pics of the issues I should fix but I might not since I'll be using it and they will be there again. Maybe touch them up for some glamour shots. I will be cutting the decals soon enough. I'll want the enamel to harden up a little better first and I'm not sure I have black.

I now for the gearbox lube, most people mix grease with 90 weight gear oil. It would probably work great on the inside too.

I was thinking of a mix of grease and gear oil but had no idea if they were compatible or not.

Default gear box oil

Just a thought on what to use in gearboxes.I had 46 jeep and steering knuckles would not hold 90wt so I filled with STP and never filled again.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
