Default 1989 Cub Cadet 1872, 50" deck, 45" snow blower

Hello,

I have a Cub Cadet 1872 that was my Grandfather's, and it has a 50" mowing deck, and a 45" snow blower. The tractor runs great, as do the implements. There are 683 7/10ths hours on it.

I would like to sell the tractor, and would appreciate your feedback on what the value is.

Thank you, in advance, for your help.

If the rear isn't loose of busted up, I'm thinking no less than $1500 for the package. I'd probably start at $1800. It looks like it is in nice shape. Why don't you keep it?

Thank you for both your replies.

I was thinking/hoping it was more along the lines of the "no less than $1500" as well, and had really thought I'd start around $2000. The whole tractor appears to be in good shape, as do the deck and the snow blower.

I have a compact Kubota with a finish mower, and a plow, and I'd like to keep the barn open, and the number of vehicles I'm maintaining to a minimum. If the Cadet did something for me (other than nostalgia) that wasn't a duplicate of the Kubota, I'd keep it.

I'm in Big Flats, Risinvillain. You're just up the road.

Again, thank you for taking the time to comment.

It might do nothing for you, but it WAS your GRANDFATHERS.
I don't know your age or relationship with him,
but to me that would make it priceless.
Maybe I'm just an old sentimental man, but you might kick yourself in the ass in years to come.

True words, Ol' George. And yet, if you knew him, you'd know that HE would kick my butt on the regular for keeping a cluttered garage, and equipment I don't need! : )

Seems like the snow blower would come in handy in your area and as Ole' George mentioned, its your grandfather's cub and after spending 10 years looking for my dad's old 106 that he would use to pull my siblings and I around the yard in, with no success, I would also recommend that you put some thought into it before it sells.

That said, I just bought an 1872 with slightly over 600 hrs, very similar condition with a deck that needed some holes welded up for less than $600. It did not have the snow blower, which I would value around $300. However, I think that I found a really nice deal for it, so I would price it at $1500 and probably go no lower than $1100 or $1200 for it.

Life's not about making the right choices, since no one ever does all of the time. Its about making the choice right, so no matter what you decide, it will become the right choice!

Hello Cub Cadet 123,

Thanks for your thoughts. Both you, and Ol' George, are making great points, and I have certainly considered them. I even tried to convince my parents to take the tractor. They would only use the snow blower, but they would enjoy helping the neighbors with their drives as well. They passed, because it's just too big for them to keep. For me, a snow blower is no use. I have a steep gravel driveway, and I've only ever plowed it for about 2 decades.

I listed the price as $2000, because I'm not in a hurry to sell it, and there is actually a good bit of local interest, probably because even small walk behind snow blowers are so expensive, and as you suggest a snowblower is very handy for people who have black top or concrete drives. Also, the deck is in great shape as far as I can tell. The underside has been coated to keep it from rusting and wearing. I can always lower the price later if I have to. I definitely appreciate your feedback, and will keep it in mind if that tractor doesn't find a good home.

Looking forward

Default Cub Cadet 1872 Sold

Thanks for you help and comments. A buyer from a few hours away came to pick up the 1872 and implements yesterday. He seemed to know, and enjoy Cubs, and said he would be sending pictures of the complete restoration. I'm glad to see it going to a good home.

Again, thanks for your help and comments.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
