Default Helicoil vs keencert

Wanting to know pros and cons on helicoil vs keencert threads on aluminium. I have never used either which is better Thanks in advance

Never heard of a timecert. We occasionally use the keensert style, but I think we order a knock-off brand. Heli-coil is still by far the most popular in industry. We've got a current job at work that will require over 1,000 Helicoils--all going into new parts.
I think the Heli-coil is certainly the weakest of the 3, but what is the application? If you are just fixing a stripped hole that is rarely going to have the bolt removed and doesn't have to be torqued very high, can't see why a Heli-coil won't work. Do you have acess to the kits to install the hole and the insert?

Heli-coil requires a "special" tap, known as STI (standard thread insert). It comes in the kits, but you can order just a tap from machine shop supply places. Installation tools come in 2 styles. One is a rod that slips inside the bore with a slot that drives the tang. The other style threads in and is ground at a weird angle on the end so it catches the tang (with trial and error you can grind a bolt for this, but if you do it wrong it will mess up the insert). Most anything can be used to break the tang off once installation is complete. Can't say I have ever seen them in a kit, but Heli-coil does offer a self locking insert if you think it is needed. Re-Coil is a knock of brand that interchanges with Heli-Coil and is usually cheaper.

Looking at the Keensert, it appears to use a special tap also, but It doesn't appear to be a STI tap from looking at how the insert is made. Also looks like a special Counterbore tool is required.

Been a while since I used one, but the Keensert style uses a standard tap (I think)--but you drill it slightly oversize. Obviously special tools required to install and drive the staking pins in.

If you only have 1 hole to fix, it may be cheaper for you to run it by a machine shop, unless you just want to buy a kit. McMaster-Carr is a good place to search for thread repair solutions.

I am going to repair a striped thread on the axle housing of my super , was mounting my cat 0 and had 1 bolt on the axle strap that just will not tighten up. it will get snug but not tight. I have a helicoil kit that I got years ago. just kinda wondering my options
