Unique Burial at Sea
Here's a forgotten film record of a burial at sea, lost in the winds of war,
that should be remembered. Loyce Edward Deen, an Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class, USNR, was a gunner on a TBM Avenger torpedo plane. On November 5, 1944, Deen's squadron participated in a raid on Manila, where his plane was hit multiple times by anti-aircraft fire while attacking a Japanese cruiser. Deen was killed. The Avenger's pilot, Lt Robert Cosgrove, managed to return his crippled aircraft to his carrier, the USS Essex. It was found upon his recovery that the plane had received ‘strike’ (non-repairable) structural damage, so it was decided to jettison it over the side to clear the deck, as was commonly done in those times. But Petty Officer Deen had been shot up so badly that it was decided to leave him in his ‘duty’ station,’ for his burial at sea. Deen’s remains could not be moved intact, so the ship’s Chaplain climbed up on the wing to administer last rites. It is the only time in U.S. Naval history (and probably U.S. military history) that an aviator was buried in his aircraft after being killed in action. See link:http://loyceedeen.webstarts.com/uploads/GoingHome.mp4 I am not the author, I lifted this from another forum. Just wanted to share in this day.

Todd, thanks for posting this. I had seen it once before and it is very moving. The world must never forget the sacrifices made by the greatest generation so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
