Wayne, this may help you or maybe someone helping you....
A and B are the allen screws we are talking about. Notice how screw B is tapered on the end. When it is screwed all the way in it goes behind the bearing and keeps the pulley from coming forward off the bearing. Screw A is flat on the end and goes in on top of B to "jam" it and keep it from backing out. You have three A and three B. C is a snap ring that stops the pulley from sliding too far onto the bearing. D is a lever (3 of these) E is the thrust button, it gets pushed in when you disengage (pull back) on the lever. F is the bearing. G are special machine bolt that get adjusted with a guage to apply even pressure to the disc. (3 of these) H is the pulley I is the bearing lock ring. It locks the bearing into place on the crankshaft. J Machine bolt nuts (6 of these, 3 to adjust, 3 to jam lock) K Pressure disc. When you engage the handle (forward) it squeezes the fiber disc against the back side of the pulley. L Fiber disc. The lugs, or ears of the fiber disc ride in the rippled area of the basket/starter pulley which is attached to the crankshaft. With the motor running (crankshaft spinning) the fiber disc will spin with it. When your handle is back (disengaged) the PTO disc is not squeezing on the fiber disc, therefor the fiber disc just spins freely between the pressure disc and the pulley. When you engage (handle forward) the pressure disc squeezes the fiber disc to the back of the pulley which now turns with the fiber disc/basket pulley/crankshaft. Where you are at right now is getting out screws A & B. Then we will go from there. |

I'll bet the next question he asks is how to get to the allen bolts because the holes aren't lined up with the holes in the basket pulley.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I did notice one of the clutch throw out levers appeared loose. It was raining when I looked at it, haven't gone back to check this morning. |

Ok, 2 sets of screws out, 1 set is resisting so it will soak another day. I haven't stripped or broken anything yet, but there's still time.

There are only two sets of set screws. 6 total. 3 on top, 3 on bottom.
What do you have out? EDIT: After thinking about this, I'm guessing you are referring to a "set" as two screws in one hole. So, I'm assuming you got 4 screws out of two holes? |

My $.02 is I would put an earlier version pto on without the brake if any of the brake mechanism is bad ! kind of an unneeded item !
