Stock K301 engine build
i am building a k301 3800rpm stock class pulling engine, not sure what else to do.
this is what i have so far k301 block 30 over. (when decking the block does that change anything with the valves?) I'm getting a professional valve job done also going to relieve the ports i have a lp head (not sure a safe amount to shave) kerber #3 cam with jeep lifters (do i have to machine the block for the bigger lifters? balance rotating assembly not sure what carb would be best for my engine. any other tips would be help full also anyone who has done a gear swap what gears are best to start with for this kind of engine? in my club we pull on a lot of fair tracks loose dusty tracks maybe a few good sticky tracks. this will be in a narrow frame thanks for the help!

Have you checked your local rules to make sure all those modifications are legal? There is no need to machine anything for the jeep lifters but many clubs do not allow them in the stock classes.
As for gearing that really is going to depend on track conditions. What works for me here in MI may not work where you are.

you can deck the block without changing the depth of your valves as long as you don't get carried away. you might as well put some good stainless valves in it. find a piston with a higher pin so you can put a longer rod in it. then take your crank in and have it ground .030 under so you can have a .015 stroker . call Lacota for a good carb and you should be set. you didn't say what kind or size of tires you plan to run so kind of hard to say what gear you'll run. I would put a fine spline in it and a frt bearing retainer
