Best deal on 108 generator
Help me out, I need a generator asap and don't know where I should get it. I see some on the bay but they could be Chinese junk for all I know. Whats a reliable, not too terribly spendy source for one?

I assume, you are talking about the Starter/Generator on your Cub Cadet.
It is widely held here, that taking the Delco-Remy S/G to a reputable repair shop, is far better than buying the foreign made replacements that is seen on popular auction sites. If you are determined to replace rather than repair, your luck is as good as anyone elses's here.

Agreed...
It's a crapshoot at best. Some times you win, sometimes you loose. I just recently lost... Found one I had gotten somewhere and forgot that I had. Dropped it off at the shop 2 weeks ago. I have been using this shop for a couple years now w/great results. They got around to checking it out and called the other day... Unit is basically junk, may be able to salvage the end plates but the main parts are toast, oh well!! Last 2 I took in cost about $60 total IIRC for complete service. Good luck! |

Bad news. The armature is toast. They said its almost 100 for the armature alone, and ~180 to rebuild. And they said the armature would probably come from the same overseas manufacturers of the import s/g's I'd like to avoid. Not an appealling thought.
A member emailed me about rebuilt ones he has so hopefully that will work out.

I did get a call back from one of the sponsors who recommended the imported starters at DB Electrical. Said he's sold many and had very good luck with them so that's what I'm gonna go with. Sent PMs and left messages for several members who replied, but I havent heard back from any yet and I need to get this ordered before the grass blocks my view out the window.

I put one on my 129 a year ago and so far it works fine. I wouldn't hesitate to order another if needed. Be sure to order a CCW if you order one.

Yep, that's what it is. Now if only I can find a bracket, because mine is badly stripped and probably irrepairable, at least by me.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
