Zero Turn more like half turn...
Folks - my ZTR 42 turns completely to the right (e.g., as expected)....but stops at about 45 degrees when turning to the left. Yes I greased all the grommets, tires are inflated properly, etc. It's very much a hard stop....will not budge any further.
It's about 3 years old. Any ideas? |

I see a RZT S42 and an RZT L42. Are either one of these what you have?? Is yours a handle bar machine, or a steering wheel machine.
What doesn't turn? Kind of odd thing to say a ZTR turns right "as expected" but only turns 45 deg to the left..... ????? How about an actual model number off the machine. |

It's an RZT S 42...the one with a steering wheel. Ok, not sure how your characterization of the behavior as being "odd" helps us move forward??
Thanks. |

Ok.... the machine only turns 45 deg to the left? Or the steering wheel...??

So envision sitting on the machine, stationary. The wheels will turn to the right in full radius, as designed. However, when turning the wheels to the left, they do not turn all the way. They stop at about 45 degrees.

Alright..... back to needing an actual model number. Cub parts look up site doesn't like RZT S 42. Need the model number off the tag.

Ok, I'll get the model number off the machine on Tuesday....got it a HD.
In the meantime, here's the exact description from HD...."RZT S 42 in. 22 HP Kohler V-Twin Dual Hydrostatic Zero-Turn Riding Mower with Steering Wheel Control". |

I hunted around and found the parts break down.
Looks like a lot of cheap parts. Window regulators for steering controls. I'd say that one of those cheap parts broke. You either need to get to the steering mechanism on the underside or take it to a dealer. Good luck getting service though because you got it at HD. I'm sure if you go the fix it yourself route you'll find the answer quickly when you dig in a little. Sorry, can't be of much more help than that. |

More than likely you have a bad steering strut. I had a similar situation occur with my zero turn. One of mine was stripped out and the bar was laying down. The other one was worn out on my 2008 cub zero turn. Just be sure to replace both of them, not just the broken one.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
