Default Re-Power a 2182?

Has anyone re-powered a 2182? Exploring some options for my FIL's 2182 which has extensive engine damage due to a non functioning oil pump for who knows how long.

He too it to a local mechanic for a PTO seal replacement and as he checked it out found and fixed a few minor things until he got to a lot of play in the crank and found the oil pump problem. I don't have all the details on the damage as this is second hand from the FIL but the crank is scored badly along with some other internal issues.

The $$ for repair is more than the tractor is worth to him, so I was wondering if anyone had gone through a re-power on a 2182?

I would check these people out. They always have Kubota's for sale and their prices are not too bad. You would need to do some modifications to drop a diesel in it but maybe they have a WG600 available.

A repower with one of those SEW kits like Zippy used in his 1872 would be easy but you would need to find a battery tray, a motor plate, a drive shaft and the fire wall from something like an 1882. You'll also need to come up with a wiring harness or make your own. If you want it to look decent you'll also need a set of side panels.

I'd check with the sponsors at the top of the page to see if they have a good used WG600. That would be the easiest way to fix it.

Short Update....They found & bought a nearby WG600 with about 650 hours from a zero turn that had a cratered transmission. They swapped it in and I helped the FIL get it off his trailer after he got it home yesterday. I only had about 5 minutes as I was passing through on my way to an appt so I didn't get to check it out very well.

I'll have more time this weekend when I put his deck back on for mowing to check it out and will update with anything interesting.

Another short update....Got the mower deck put on it Friday night and visually looked it over. He stopped by yesterday as I was working on a different deck project (framing, boards, posts and rails kind of deck) to let me know it stopped in the middle of the second trip around the yard. Would start, crank or even light up any of the dash lights. Stopped on my way home thinking it was going to be something safety switch related.

Started checking from ignition switch and didn't have to go far. They had a splice connector from the old ignition switch wire to the 'new' starter wire and the new side pulled out of the connector. Looked like when the connector was crimped maybe he missed and had the crimper on the wire cutting it. All I had with me in the truck was a wire nut so that is what is on there now taped up. It fired right up and I ran it a couple laps before handing it off. Man those 3 cyl Kubotas are smoooooooth!

I think his fathers day present will be the rear brackets, his yard is really rutted and gives quite a bumpy ride even as slow as i drive around it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
