Keep that Onan in it. You may want to check and see if it has the new style rods in it and if not, change them. That is the weak link in those motors and with the new rods you should get many more hours out of it. Yep, $1200 is what a complete B48G rebuild kit costs. That is a nice looking machine.

Thanks Oak. Yeah I read there are 3 types I think the solid ones are the good ones. But how am I supposed to get a rods out of the engine without smashing the block into pieces with a hammer, LMAO. The Onan if running good, and sounding good, with no severe blow by issues Is going to stay in it. That link Sam put up shows whole long blocks for 1,600. That seems like a good alternative for the price.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Run it until it blows up then repower it.

That's a sweet 982! I wouldn't worry about an engine till it starts giving you trouble. I did buy my rebuild kit for my k301 from kustom lawn and garden and I am very happy with it.

I know Im late to the party, but hows the onan holding up? Have on in the 982 i bought. Not sure if it runs, havent messed with it yet, but this was a really good threat to read for someone in my shoes. Had no idea there was a place like the one Sam posted. Thats kick @$$ in my opinion. Would love to do a Repower with a CH22 or something, but then I would have to buy all the other stuff that is usually stripped off the engines when sold.
Hear those onans are very strong running. Anxious to get the rebuild going, gotta get the 1864 done first. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
