Very interesting, I will check on that when I get a chance. leadsling, if u wanna see other pics of it there are some up in a different thread titled 1772 value?

That's a good point Sbauer, run it, what's the worst that could happen, blow it up then repower it anyway. Lol.

If it runs good I wouldn't worry about it until it doesn't. You said something about buying a motor and moth balling it...... well, what if your engine runs for another 1000hrs? How many years will it take you to put 1000hrs on? I run the crap out of my cubs. The one I use the most I typically put 100hrs on a year..... that's 10 years. Do you really want to spend $1500 for something that's just gonna sit on a shelf? If it was smoking or knocking, the's different. Run that pig till it won't. Then, I'd re-power it. There is absolutely no benefit to keeping the Onan. Show me a repowered 982 that doesn't bring the same money as any Onan powered unit..... You can't. People get hung up on the original motor thing because in the auto world it matters. In the tractor world, no one cares. It's not like the motors are SN# matched to the machine.

Well said Jon, I figure 100 hours in a year would be the absolute high side of my usage, I have a lot of Cubs that share the brunt of the duties I ask of them. I'm gonna check it out good, clean out the cooling fins do a full maintence and run that Onan into the ground. Damn thing might out last me. Thanks for all the opinions, comments and leads in this matter.

Don't tell her but I'd sell several of my machines to get my hands on this one, best part is I don't have to.

When are you going to get it?? Just wondering when we should expect some better pictures.

I'm thinking remove the lights on the fenders, new seat, clean it up a bit and it will look a lot better.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
