Doubtful the rods were usable anyway.

I got the pistons out this evening with very little effort, soaking really helped. But... it's toast. The bore is pitted badly. I tried cleaning it up and ran a hone in it to see what it looked like and the pitting is bad.

.030" is a lot of material to take out of a cylinder. You SURE it's junk?? You'd be shocked what will clean up. How about a pic.....

Do they have 0.030 pistons for this engine? I haven't even considered that as an option.

I'm not suggesting he spend money, I'm suggesting he sell it. Sell it as a rebuildable block. It would be better to bore it first though and sell it as ready.

I would need the pistons to have it bored. Selling as rebuildable is possible... but I don't know how deep the scars are.

You need pistons to finish a bore, but not for a rough cut. You could have a rough cut done and the buyer have it finished. Or, buy and fit pistons and sell it with them. But I am not suggesting you rebuild and sell it. Just me, but I wouldn't buy a motor an individual rebuilt unless it came with a guarantee. When I rebuild motors with others, they're guaranteed.

I'm going to bow out of thus thread anyway. I'm not here to help you figure out how to make a buck.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
