deck on a 128
Hi all,
New here - have a question about the deck on my 128. What size deck was on the original? Do you measure from end to end? Please keep laughing to a minimum , I really have no idea. I know the deck on mine isn't the original and I measured it at 60" end to end, which seems long, so am I measuring wrong? Follow-up question to that - can you ever have a deck that is too big, like too taxing for the engine? I used this to mow a decade ago and it seemed to work fine, but if a deck that is too big will hurt the engine somehow, even slowly over time, I don't want to use it. It it helps I think it has the number 501 u-1111 on it. Thanks for any help, Janeen |

Looks to be a 50 inch cut deck. The 128 came with several different sized decks.
My 128 came with a 42 inch deck. My 1250 with the 44 inch deck. I would like to have the 50 or the 48 sized deck.

Janeen:
The 1x8/9 Series Cub (which the 128 is part of) came with the follow deck size options: 38, 44, & 50. Not a dumb question at all, it is often asked. The size of the deck is determined by the "cutting width". Thus, a 38" deck has a 38" cutting width, and so on.

My 12hp machines will run the 50" deck on flat level ground if the grass is cut weekly or often. It seems to be a bit taxing on the power if there is any kind of grade. The 50" only seems to work well on perfectly level grond as well, like wide open fields, no lumps or bumps. So even on my 14hp machines I usally only run the 44" or 42".
Unless your mowing golf course I would be on the look out for a nice 44" it would work with your canted mule drive. The others use the straight mule. By the way I have two nice 42"ers if anybody would like to trade for a good 38"

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
