Default New cutting edge 42" blade

Ordered a new cutting edge for the 42" blade and got a chance to start wrenching on it today. When the skid shoes wore out a few years ago, the replacements I bought from Polaris don't allow the blade to lower far enough so the OEM cutting edge would reach the ground. I originally ran it as-is and would leave 1/4" of snow on the drive that would turn into ice. Second year I put a rubber strip in between the cutting edge and blade, and that was great for riding over any packed snow there was and made it useless. I requested a wider one from Xtreme and they cut me one. (2 1/2" wide.) Here it is with the OEM edge.





Mocking it up so I can get the shoe placement correct.





Already I like that it's thicker than OEM, and the hole placement is spot on. Tomorrow I'm throwing some primer on it so I can get it painted. I'm looking forward to using it.

I bought a new edge from Extreme also, for my 54" blade. As you said, better than OEM, and spot on as far as mounting holes. I am a happy camper.

I had four options for painting- at home in the house, in an unheated garage, outside at 5 degrees, or take it to work. I opted to take it to work to paint. On the way, the pint can I had decided to open in the (cab of the) truck. Thankfully it was in a plastic bag (that had a pinhole in it nevertheless so it leaked everywhere). I had to hurry up and use the paint since I didn't have any more, and my closest IH dealer is 80 miles away. Here is how it turned out:



Looks great huh?

I've got a solid 6' cutting edge.

Freakin' thing looks like hell. (can I say that?) I contemplated stripping it off and starting over, but then I remembered 1) it's a wear part 2) I need to mount it so I don't have to shovel if there is snow and 3) I can always strip it and do it right in the summer.

The most annoying thing was I had half a pint of paint left, and that stuff is like 30 bucks a pint if I remember right. Fortunately I was able to save a small bit to use in places to touch up. This is what I was able to salvage.




Best part? My HR manager had to access my office after I had left for the day for something and he asked me the next day what I was painting in there cuz it stunk like hell. I guess I'm the only one that appreciates the smell of CNH paint.
