Default QA42A belt seems loose
I have a QA42A. For some reason, to get the belt tight, I have to turn the adjuster until the tension adjustment bolt is almost completely backed out of the swivel nut. I am using the correct belt (part # IH-55053-C1). It is a 30-inch belt.

I remember it being much tighter last year. It was almost difficult to get the belt on the lower pulley with the adjustment plate loose. Now the belt hangs below the lower pulley before tightening. I don’t know what happened. I bought a new belt, thinking the old belt has stretched, but it didn’t.

Any ideas? Or is it normal to have to back the tension adjustment bolt out so far?

Did your mounts move? All other linkage tight and adjusted properly? Did you maybe bend something?

I rebuilt and repainted this unit last year. Everything looks good. Everything moves freely. I have spacers between the plates, etc.

It's like I need a 29-inch belt all of a sudden.

What do you have it on? If it's on a QL, maybe your front motor mounts crapped out.

Post a pic. I'm not sure what you mean by this. Almost backed out of what nut?

Yes. #15 (swivel nut). To get the belt tight, I have to turn the adjuster screw (#11) until it is almost completely backed out of #15.

This does not seem right. I also remember the belt being much tighter last year. I also do not remember the adjuster screw having to travel so far to get the belt tight when I set it up last year.

It's like the belt is too long. I am working with a brand new OEM belt which is exactly the same length as the old (OEM) belt I removed and replaced today.

Make sure the cotter pin is still in the nut on #11. Also, make sure the nuts on #16 haven't moved. While your at it, check the 3/8" bolt that attaches #16 to #13. Seen all those get loose. Bearings aren't going out on the gearbox are they?

I actually took it apart and put it all back together yesterday. Nothing is missing and all bolts are tight.

Any ideas on where I can get a shorter belt? I know if I put a 29" belt on there it will work better.

TSC or NAPA just to name a few. Take your existing belt and get one the next size down.
