Green or White Story
Hello all, nice to see a fresh start to a great website. Ive got a 149 that was given to me, Its in really good shape. . .really. My brother bought two garden tractors at his local citywide garage sale for 300.00 one was green and the other was yellow and white. This past winter he asked me if I might want the yellow and white one as he just wanted the green one. Well we grew up on a farm and my first few jobs were with farmers tilling fields. Ive driven bigger deeres, IH(1066, 1466), Chalmers tractors. WE grew up with deere but I always liked the international. I always liked playing with the TA(torque amplifier). So when my brother asked I hesitated in disbelief. So now I own a oct 1973 149 with a 42in deck. My brother is green(pun) with envy as he cant get his green thing running(212).
Question Im fabricating a rear lift arm and wondered if anyone could give me the diameter of the rod that holds the lift arm to the frame. I need to make one and want it as close to original as possible, just in case I run across one(lift arm) cheap. Thanks for your input - Bob |

Thank you, So looking at the inside diameter of .625 and the rod being the same then the rod is designed too be a zero tolerance fit? Then I would assume that the lift arm rotates with the rod in the bushing on each side of the lift arm where they are tack welded to the frame? Thanks for your help

The Lift Lever Shaft is a loose fit to the Lift Lever Arm.

Glad you ended up with the 149...I'd love to have a 149. My next CC will have hydraulic lift on it. Sure makes it nice with plowing snow, and plowing/tilling the garden. Thanks for sharing the story. Jason

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
