Default taking old paint off

whats the easiest way to get all the old paint and rust off? i was using a grinder with a wire brush attachment but at that rate it seems like it will take me years to get this machine ready for paint. any suggestions?

Aircraft paint stripper from your local auto parts store. As for rust elbow grease or electrolysis rust removal.

Yup, Yup.... I use a product called "tail strip" comes in a gallon jug, and be sure to wear GOOD chemical rated gloves, that stuff burns when it gets between your fingers! Don't ask, don't tell... Put it on real good and thick, wait... and it you have a pressure washer, give it a good blast with it afterwards.

I also love electrolysis, but about a 30 gal rubbermaid container is the biggest vat I have at the moment. Even with using electrolysis you need to tire a wire brush afterwards to get it shined up good.

Just keep the sandblaster away from the engine, trans, and anything aluminum.

Don't remember the name but the stuff (aircraft stuff) I bought at Auto Zone is lethal.

I bought a rubber 42gal. trash can, slopped the stripper on, let it sit for 15min. dropped it in the trash can, hooked up the battery charger & in 2 days was fantastiko. I then power washed the whole nose of the #122 & came out super.

how long did you let it set? And I found the only way that tail strip stuff worked really good, was to get a visible paste on it and let it sit, not just wipe it on.

Some parts of a tractor with a good paint seal in areas is needles to be removed. I feather out the paint and recomend a primer sealer before primer. You will have the best results removing any paint with a 4 inch flap wheel. Check the grit for what you need.

The temperature of the stripper and the room temperature are both VERY important.
Chemically, this stuff just about "shuts off" under 65. A fairly thick and consistent coating is needed so as not to allow the stripper to dry out before it has a chance to penetrate the paint layer(s).
