Default Acceptable substitute for Hytran

I'm in a bind, drained my diff, replaced gasket between diff & hydro. Ordered hytran over 2 weeks ago, haven't recieved it & need the tractor. All of the local Tractor Supply's are out, no local dealer. Nearest dealer over 100 miles away.

Any acceptable sub for Hytran?

Found a Case IH dealer about 30 miles from me in Hopkinsville, KY. Wife is on a parts run now. Picking up a 5 gal bucket for $58.65 + tax. Guess I should have searched in Ky sooner!!!

Thanks

It will work just fine, but some will argue that I.H. oil is better,of course the folks on the J.D. forums will argue their oil is better.

But the last time I talked to my sunstrand unit, it said it actually liked both equally well and even stated it likes type "F" ATF.

Hy-Gard™ Hydraulic/Transmission Oil

Applications

– Hy-Gard hydraulic/transmission oil provides the best performance and wear protection for John Deere hydraulic and transmission systems.

– Recommended for equipment with either common system reservoirs or separate transmission and hydraulic systems, including those with wet brakes and wet clutches.

Viscosity @ 40°C................... 59 cSt
Viscosity @ 100°C................. 9.4 cSt

Features

– Formulated with friction modifiers that provide smooth clutch engagement and high braking capacity with minimum chatter.

– Formulated with a viscosity improver additive to ensure correct viscosity at all temperatures; this additive is not found in many competitive oils, yet is critical to equipment performance and component protection.

– Hy-Gard oil has a viscosity between the ISO grades of 46 and 68 @ 40°C.

– Exceeds JDM J2OC specification. Some competitive oils may meet these minimum J20 specifications, but none meet the performance requirements placed on Hy-Gard oil.

Default Hmm

What are the moisture capture properties of the JD stuff? Don't see that listed in your post. I think that's one of the biggest reasons to use Hy-Tran Ultra. Correct?

I'll be picking up some Hy-Tran Ultra tomorrow for my hydro oil change, hopefully this weekend.

I added some Allison C4 to my TurboHydromatic 350 once, it worked but I wouldn't recommend anyone else do it.

Thanks all, picked up a 5 gal bucket Thurs, filled the diff & changed the filter on the 149 that has sat for years. Installed drive shaft, jacked it up and started engine. All was well, lift works well with no leaks, neutral was slightly out. Adjusted that, now can't do anything unless I want to run it in the rain.

One relief valve leaking from the release button, any way to fix that, or just replace it?

Hy-Tran Ultra has the unique ability to hold up to 1% of its volume in water and not experience any harmful effects like additive fallout; typical tractor fluids experience problems at 0.5% or less

Thats about 2.2 ounces of water vs 1.1 for the competitor for 7 quarts(232 onces) of fluid

Question How hot do our hydros get?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
