Default Cadet 60 help

I know that this is not a garden tractor, but I really need some help form some one. I bought my Cadet 60 in August of 09 for 50 bucks and I have now spent about 400 bucks on it. It neeede all new tires, a recoil as the other one was gone, a new carb as it had the wrong one on it, and a new chain, among other things. Then, I broke off the fuel jet that holds the bowl on. I tried to get it out but messed up other parts too. It ran but ate fuel for lunch. So I bought a new service carb which was perfect. Now that I have tried the mower, it has no power. I sorted out the belts underneath it, worked on the mower deck, and pulled out the gearbox and greased, all of which helped. Now, it still lacks for powere like mad. I think I don't have the carb adjusted right, but feel that something else is affecting it also. I wondered if someone else could send me some pics of their linkage from the governor to the carb as I'm not sure mine is right. Also, I wondered if someone could tell me if theirs is as gutless as mine is. Thanks

57130: I've got a Model 60 RER and I do not think it's gutless at all... There is a Tecumseh Single cylinder service manual which can be of immense help in adjusting that engine. The Tecumseh Manual was still in print the last I checked. I'll see what I can find on that carb linkage...

Thanks for the info and links. After working and working on it during the day, I finally located the problem. When I bought it the gas tank was all rusty. I cleaned it out using electrolysis but didn't get it out very well around the back. Now, a little rust is getting through the button filters and is clogging up the carb. I readjusted the carb and got it to be more powerful, but the rust is still clogging up. Anyway, I finished mowing with it for the first time, but I'm going to have to get that rust out of there. It actually pretty good when it runs right. This thing has been a real money hole, but I think it's about done. Thanks a bunch for the manuals too. I have the operators, but no others.

You might try some RedKote, it will seal the gas tank. I used it on my Troybilt tiller and it sealed the leak and sealed the rust. No more problems.

Default pea gravel and a clear fuel filter

this method is simple, but, worth a try.empty the tank and let it dry, take a couple handfulls of pea gravel(small round stones),and roll it around for awhile, rinse it out with gas (save ea. flush into a clear container so,you can monitor what comes out ea. time),After you feel you've got out as much as you can,put it back together, using a clear inline fuel filter(avail. @any autoparts store.) I have used these filter's on my M18(fuel pump)and my 11 HP briggs(gravity feed),just mount the filter vertically, and it should work.

Take off the head and clean it and the deck area up a bit. It will help your tuning a but, as well as make the engine more efficient and powerful

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
