Smile Flywheel, ring gear.
Engine: SV720-0010 Kohler. Ring gear on flywheel split and flopping around. Has anybody seen this before? Seeing how you cannot buy just the ring gear, even thou I have a PN (A-25-097-01). Kohler is telling me that only a flywheel assembly is the cure. That is a 250$ cure, no thanks.

I would try welding it back together.

If a ring gear can't be purchased separately then I would weld the gear in place or buy a used flywheel.

If it is welded the right size, it can be heated and shrunk in place.

Pretty sure Vogel carries it. Make sure it fits your engine.

Clean the land, heat the new one, drop it on and let it cool. Fixed.

To find that, all I did was search the part number you gave on Google. Popped right up.

Thank you everyone for your replies. After pondering this problem for a while. The owner, took the flywheel to the local community college and had the welding dept. weld the split and re-install it on the flywheel. I am going to install it back on the engine this PM, an we will sell what happens.

I to googled the PN, but I did not use the A. Maybe that is why I could not find it. If this welding repair does not work, I will get a hold of Vogel.

They did that between 11 am yesterday and today?

Yes, When the dept head is the owners brother-in-law, you would be amazed a what you can get done, in a short amount of time.

Installed flywheel on engine, so far everything is holding together. Everything will be on hold for a day or to, getting ready to leave and get this skin cancer cut out of my neck. Still have not fiqured out how they sew up a hole. I guess in a couple hours I will know.
