Which style; clock, or number type?

I got a dial hour meter working again by gently prying the face off and spraying wd40 in it, then all I had to do was gently crimp the face back on with a pair of pliers. When I was done it worked just fine and you couldn't even tell it was taken apart.

I've seen where guys have fixed the clock style, but not the number/odometer style. I've never attempted to fix either. I have tried to fix tachometers and some other gauges because they were NLA, or VERY expensive. IMHO, I'd just replace it. Write down somewhere the hours on the old meter and just start over.

Well, it depends what is wrong with the hour meter. I've had some that simply had bad contacts inside, that just needed to have the contact points cleaned up. I've had some that had the clock mechanism that needed a lube job with a precision clock oiler. I had some that had water infiltration that caused one of the wires inside to corrode and go open. Like was stated, carefully pry around the bezel and open it up, then go from there on what you find out.
I've gotten some used hour meters from some of the sponsors and fixed them up to use. I had a 782 that had the hour meter stop suddenly on me. some age old rust particles inside made the contacts lose connection and made it momentarily stop working. Good Luck. " Mike you should be able to fix it if you have some time on your hands" Sometimes a little tapping on the side of the case can get it going again.

This is an hour meter out of a Cyclops with the number wheels. Looks like the case is glued together.
I would bet water damage is the cause of it not working but not sure. |

Well I know I have a few lying around, and they work.
Most times when installing the battery, people tend to hit those terminals sticking out and break them off inside the meter. STDT, BTDT, WTDT? BTW Simplicity uses the same type meter.

Well, I popped the case apart and pulled the guts out the back. Everything was nice and clean. No rust, no corrosion. Nothing visual.
Inside is a circuit board with 3-4 little electrical thingys on it. That's hooked to a coil which when activated pulls an arm down which rotates the hour wheels. I hooked it straight to a battery and the coil/solenoid had no life so I gave up. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
