Okay to use Shell Rotell T 1 oil?
Advance Auto is having a 20% off sales this weekend (25% if you order online). Shell Rotella T 1 SAE 30 before discount is $14.99 for 2 gallons. And the Shell Rotella T 1 HD SAE 30 is $14.99 for 1 gallon. Is one better than the other for the Cub Cadet 1210? Thank you in advance!

This is what Cub Cadet and Kohler recommends. It is your tractor, your time, and your money, you can use what you see fit.

As Mr Bedell stated, your tractor, your money, but I would not use it in my air cooled engine. So 2 votes for using what the manufacturer recommends.

Of course the manufacturer is going to recommend something they sell, that's just good business and keeps the cash flowing in their pockets. It's just like Ford recommending motorcraft oil but nobody would hesitate to run whatever brand they preferred. Use whatever you want, I run Valvoline in all my engines and have never had an issue.
DON'T DRINK THE CORPORATE KOOL AID.

I run Low-Ash oil from CaseIH. Price isn't too bad in gallon containers. Even if it does cost a couple bucks more, how often do you change oil in a years time in a lawn mower, twice at the most?
On a related note, we switched from Exxon Super HDII to a Dello equivalent this spring for all of our older gasoline farm equipment. I don't know offhand what it is, but its a 30W specifically listed for older engines, no problems so far. Sole reason I switched was convenience purchasing the oil.

I have used the Shell Rotella 30wt but recently switched he'd Valvoline 10w-30 conventional. Just follow Cub/Kohler's recommendation for oil weight and season and you'll be fine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
