I had a similar power loss under load with my Kohler Command. I blew in the fuel line from the filter back to the tank. It temporarily helped, but the power loss shortly returned. I then pulled the fuel tank. The valves on the bottom of the tank were packed with debris. Then cleaned tank, valves and replaced fuel line, filter. Carburetor cleaned. No more power loss issues.

Did you find the issue? My 2166 w/ single cyl. Kohler CH16S is doing the same thing. The fuel line from tank to pump has been replaced, fuel filter replaced, carb sediment bowl pulled & cleaned, fuel cap cleaned and spark plug replaced. It runs fine for an hour or so then acts like starving for gas, will run on choke a few minutes then sputters and picks back up when choke pushed back in but eventually goes dead. Cranks right back up runs about 30 minutes then same scenario. Seat kill & reverse cut off switches except brake switch were eliminated years ago. Fuel solenoid seams to work because it doesn't back fire when switching engine off. I don't know what else to do now.

Did you remove and clean the fuel tank? Check the outlet at the tank to make sure it's clear?

You guys who have these running issues where the tractor dies after so long have GOT to start figuring out whether you are losing fuel of spark. It's a quick test and MUST be carried out immediately after the machine dies. Figure out which system needs fixing and then we can proceed. You can replace all the parts you want, but until you know whether it is fuel or spark related you are just guessing. A motor only needs 3 things to run: Fuel, air and fire. Most generally air is fine, but I've seen plugged air filters that were so bad engines wouldn't run before.

If it was a spark issue it would not crank right back up correct? The air filter & pre-filter are clean. I'm wondering if the fuel solenoid is not staying open because once it dies it cranks right back up it runs fine for a while. I do not think it's spark due to starting right back up.

Nothing is certain until you verify it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
