The previous information would have worked. It was a SPDT Relay while the one on the 2072 is a SPST Relay (No normally closed contacts)

The 2072 uses a 725-0894-----> 925-0894 Relay.

Here is a Diagram of how this should be wired.

Green wire is Ground
Brown wire to Control Circuit
Brown & Green is the Relay Coil

White wire is Power Source (12VDC+)
Black wire to Elec PTO
White to Black is the Magnetic Switch contacts

When asked to run a jumper wire from the Battery (+) terminal to the Brown Wire, if all was good, that relay should have energized.

The White Wire has 12VDC+ as long as the Ignition Switch is in the "Run Position".

Since the White Wire has 12VDC+, and the Relay is energized, then the PTO will engage.

Default Fixed!

I should have paid more attention to your directions.
Indeed, one of the brown wires on the seat switch was disconnected.
It works fine now.
Thanks for your help!

Been tracing down wiring circuits since 1975 and I usually get things figured out.

Default Still trouble

Hello Roland,

After having thought that things were fine when I reconnected the brown wire to the seat switch, when I put it in reverse during the first mow, it quit working and I had to use the rubber band again.

So, I bought a new seat switch and boot and installed that and cleaned the wires and used the electric lube and still a no go!

What can I try now?

Mark

Well, since it has been a couple of months now, I'll have to go back and re-read the posts to refresh my memory.

Is my understanding correct, that you have purchased and installed the following new Cub Cadet Parts:
* PTO Switch
* Holding Relay
* Reverse Switch
* Seat Switch

In addition, that the 2072 tractor is wired per the factory wiring diagram...???

Yes, all have been replaced. Remember, it ran fine for about a year after I moved it to Minnesota. When the toggle stopped working, I replaced that. Then the relay. Then the reverse switch. Now the seat.

When I touch the relay terminal that the brown wire would be connected to, the relay opens/shuts.
When I touch the brown wire (not connected to the relay) nothing happens.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
