Default 382 how rare?

A buddy of mine has a 382 that belonged to his uncle its been well taken care of and repainted.I was wondering how rare it is.He told me he wouldn't sell it unless someone offered him at least $1000,I think it has sentamental value to him more than anything else.

It is a Lawn Tractor from the years of 1979 - 1984. Personally I wouldn't pay a $1000.00 for a lawn tractor no matter how good of condition it was in. Rare...??, I don't think so.

Ok,thanks I guess what might make it rare would only be the fact that most people wouldn't waste the time or effort to restore one,As far as 1000 bucks I wouldn't either.I think it has more to do sentimental value .I know actual production numbers are hard to find so I thiought I would ask, thanks

Those were some pretty tough little machines. Far better than a comparable Murray back in those days. They were available in yellow/white or red/white color schemes. The weak links with those were in the deck spindle bearings. Over time the hydros wore out as well. Those 2 items were so expensive to fix that it caused a lot of the machines to be junked. We've got one here that we use for trim work. It was actually used for commercial mowing until the engine went out on it.

That's funny, I have a gear shift 382 with a bad mower bearing and have a 382 hydro that the hydro is weak in . just part of the collection .

My Dad has a 382H with a LOT of hours on it. He had to replace the spindles a couple times, and it's on engine #2. The hydro got weak, too, so the dealer told him to drain the Hytran and fill it with 85W-90 gear lube. 20 years later, it still works great, it just doesn't like the cold. Jeff, that might breathe some new life into yours.

I have a JD 108 that got hit by a tree (it fell during a windstorm) and it had a paper air filter element. Do these little CCs have the paper element or the more common foam (which tends to disintegrate) element?

Is this a 382 standard cub cadet? If so, does he still own and possibly want to sell? Have them contact me

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
