Default 1782 Bearings
Has anyone found a reliable source for the 5/8" ball bearing that are used in the rear driveshaft joint?

I found these to be considerably cheaper than Cub's prices. I put them in a 2182 last year. Drive shaft is smooooth.

Try McMaster-Carr #9528K26 hard wear resistant E52100 alloy steel balls $7.72 for 25 of them. Almost $.19 a piece cheaper. You may not want that many though. They are the same as the brake expander balls in some of my Oliver tractors, so I wanted the larger package.

The drive coupler balls or the ones out of a brake expander? I ended up with several expender balls that were all rusty and pitted that I replaced so the whole assembly would work smooth again. I replaced the ones in the drive coupler on my 1782 because they had never been greased and I had a bag of new ones. I should replace the coupler too one of these days. It's fairly sloppy.

Don't forget to put a new o-ring and new boot, if needed, on each coupler. I put a small zip tie around the small end of the boot, so grease doesn't just push out between the boot and shaft. I pump grease in until I feel the boot start expanding.

This tractors are slap wore out. I'm not sure they've been greased since leaving the factory. The p.o. said he's confident its over 10k..but still running strong.. Gotta love a bota diesel..
