Default Cub Cadet HDS 3205 vs 3235 and Current Values

Like the title says - which of these two is the preferred choice

Also wanted an idea of current prices in good operating condition. Are they $700 tractors or closer to $1,500?

I do know the 3205 (1999) is a water cooled Kawasaki vs the 3235 (2001) which has a air cooled Kohler Command

TIA

JC

They are not to popular with folks here. The ones who have them like them. My .02 is they are closer to 500.00. Basically the value of the engine.

I'm a 3000 fan. Looks like you may have a GT3100

JC, do you have any pictures of them? I've seen some machines that are hammered and not worth $500.

3205, that is my main mower and I love it. The liquid cooled Kawi motor is awesome, runs good, sips fuel and seems like the motor oil never gets dirty by the looks of it. That model and a few others were the first run of the 3k series and I think are built well. It will have the aluminum locking rear transmission in it. The 289(48") & 290(54") decks are the best cutting decks I have seen on any Cub. I don't know anything about the 60" deck because I never had one yet. They got cheap on the newer decks and I think they are garbage. Those decks are the 209, 295 & 394.
Yes, people have had issues with the transmission and the rear locking differential but I will be honest and say mine has been trouble free with 18 year old oil and the original transmission filter on it. I'm only at 230 hours on the clock on mine. ....I know, I need to change it and I have had the oil on the shelf for 4 years now but as we know the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

3235, pretty much the same machine with a different engine but I think some had the cast iron rear and Cub started deleting things off to bring the price down.

Thanks for the responses so far. Im leaning towards the 3205 water cooled Kawasaki with 54 inch deck. Although I would prefer the 48" as Im all hills and trees, which requires the differential lock now and then and my GT3100 lacks. It has 586 hours and appears to have been through its normal grind over the years with signs of the dreaded rust popping up. What I'm hoping to avoid is a monstrous project as it is a 1999.

Do you do your own repairs? There has been several here that have had to disassemble the rear end and repair it when the diff bolts back out. Just something else to think about.

yes, I do my own repairs. CubDieselFan thanks for mentioning the diff bolts. I've done the gerotor on the 3100. Can you be more specific or give link to the differential bolts? <Edit: Found the diff bolts thread>

I found the rebuild threads, bad bearings and leaky seals. Doesn't seen too bad.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
