It's been done. At one time or another Everything has been done to these Cubs! However, your 125 is a Narrow Frame Cub and to even replace the 12hp Kohler with a 14hp Kohler, you'd have to relieve the frame to accept the larger flywheel on the 14hp. My humble opinion is that if your 125 doesn't have enough power to do what you want it's time to either rebuild the engine or find a 149 that you can buy.

Cricket: Aroostook may be a relatively new poster, but his advice is dead-on correct. I recommend you heed his advice.

I've actually seen these with V-8 engines on them. It was most likely a wide frame though. Can't remember.

Can't you put a 12 horse flywheel and tin on a 14 horse. Thought I remember someone talking about that

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
