I was driving along one day and I saw that little cart leaned up against someone's garage, so I swung in the driveway and offered him $20 for it. The 109 was even better, I got it for free with brand new genuine Kohler parts for the rebuild.

Sweet deals on some great IH cubs and IH trailer!! I ate up $20 the other day at a restaurant, but I'd much rather have the trailer and a PBJ!!! Congratulations on the finds.

Hey! This thread is about Originals! Let's not divert the entire forum with talk about peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!

Great to see another "O" getting the preferential treatment it deserves. Great little tractors! Keep us informed. The thinning PB and J population needs you!

When the piston was removed 2 score marks were visible. So, I pulled out my cylinder hone and honed the cylinder after 4 try's one score was eliminated and the other was minimized. Unless the cylinder is egged out or out of accepted tolerances I think I should be able to stay with standard size parts. But I won't know until I can get to the machine shop. The valves will definately need gound and lapped because there is 51 years of carbon in there.

Wow I really needed to get going on this.

Anyways,
Local machine shop closed and I was lucky enough to locate a private machinist who was able to help me out on this deal.

Engine was bored to .020 over, polished crank, valve job completed (needed a new exhaust valve), head planed, and the crank polished.

I sourced all NOS Kohler parts for the rebuild. All in all I have about $300 in parts and $100 in all machine work.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
