First off, welcome. You have an IH garden tractor not a lawn tractor so you would probably get more help if you posted in that section.

Now, if the tractor has been sitting a long time the clutch plates are probably stuck to the disc. Lock the pedal down and carefully pry between the plates and the disc to separate them. Be carefull not to damage the disc or ding up the face of the plates. It usually doesn't take much to pop them loose. The clutch might be a little grabby until the plates polish up a little. Good luck.

It never occurred to me to put that in there but you are 100% right. Never assume anything.

Welcome to OCC!
Depending on how bad the clutch is stuck, you could try starting the cub in a gear on flat ground. Then try driving it up a hill while pressing the clutch, it may free it. That is what I was told to do with my 100 with the same issue.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
