Good job! I had to rebuild the same style of cylinder last year on a IH 454 utility (steering cylinder) It was fun taking it apart with punches--didn't have one of those fancy spanner wrenches. It actually came apart rater easy or I would have made a wrench.

No problem buddy! Glad I could offer some moral support even if it was only by text message. Make sure you clean that groove for the lock ring real good. When I spin them back together I coat the ring with Never Seize. You never know when you might have to go back in!

Glad you got it figured out Steve. Those lock ring cylinders are fun when that little 90 piece breaks off and then you can’t feed the ring out. I’ll take a threaded gland nut version any day over one of those but thankfully it came apart for you.

Been chasing parts. Here are some pictures to share my adventures.
Fastenal did not have the #3 oring (#141). Ended up getting those from a local hydraulic store at a higher price point. #4 wiper seal was obtained through local hydraulic supply not Fastenal. Not sure it was necessary to change. Found it to most closely matched up to AN-05 part number through the interweb. The original had markings of. SNJ-6 959-05 .75. I was unable to match anything based on that information.

See post #18.
Local hydraulic shop didn't have all the parts you need?? They couldn't put together all of it? My local shop would have been able to.... easier to get all the parts in one place, like Messick's. I still think you are doing all this and aren't going to gain anything. You said the polish rod on the cylinder is pitted. It will eat the o-ring in short order and start leaking. Won't take long..... |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
