Looking good Mr. Plans. Those biggins on the bottom had to be done with a big saw right? Thinking that Valmet cutter can’t handle stuff that big? Lots of fun and lots of money, good for you!

The guy running the Valmet says the biggest tree the machine will cut is 22",,
and, that means the trees with base swell are much smaller than 22",, maybe only 16"

They can cut from both sides, but, it is just as easy to use a chainsaw,,,

Not to change the subject ...but there are 2 guys here that build big thick dinning, meeting room tables , for big houses , they go for $2k and up , a TV station did a feature on them , they are booked making them for 5-6 months ...maybe thats the reason for the change in value

Seen the commercial where the memorable old tree falls and the kids had it made into this kind of table ?

The logging company owner came over Saturday, and loaded two log trucks,,
he had time between loads, and we talked quite a bit,,

The yellow CAT knuckle boom log loader was purchased new right before Christmas,
it was the last "non-DEF" log loader that they would get.
Also the engine was being changed from a 6 cylinder, to a 4 cylinder.

The log loader cost $285K, but, they got over half of that as trade in on their 2005 loader.

Well, 1/2 inch of rain over the weekend,, then another half inch of rain last night,,,
the loggers did not even bother to show up today,,

we may get 6" of snow after midnight tonight,,
I might not see them for a WEEK!!

If we get that much snow, I will have to hire Sam Mac and his 'bota to clear the haul roads,,,

The cutting is not complete,, yet,, but, it is getting close,,
We kept the data, and have records of EVERY truckload;
Date
Arrival time
Departure time
Pulp or saw logs

My wife is crazy about data,, she could not resist.

The job should wrap up within a week, assuming there is not another weather delay.

I really wish I could find a website or other source of info on the wholesale price of hardwood rough sawn boards.
Right now, the best data we can find is that oak sells for about $1,000 per thousand board feet,, poplar is less.

The logging crew says this is the worst weather conditions they have EVER experienced in 50 years of doing this type work,,,

Rain, rain, rain,,,,,

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
