Saturday's Haul - Two 2135s
I saw an ad in yesterday's tractors for a 2135 with a bad engine for $40. So, I call the guy and he says he has another Cub also that he wants to get rid of. So I asked him, what model? He says, wait and he'll look. Turns out it was a 2135 also. So I asked him how much for that one - he says give him $50 for them both. I said sold.
I picked them up Saturday. One (with the supposedly bad engine) has 424 hours on it, both rear tires off the rim, dirty to the point of being black. It has a bagger and both engine side panels are also there, but not on the tractor. The other one, has a busted transmission housing (which the guy told me) and has one rear tire that won't air up. One engine side panel is on the tractor, the other one is laying on the seat. I'm thinking since the transmission is cracked on the same side as the tire that won't air up, that someone dropped the tractor off the truck. It has only 150 hours on it. Anyways, I get them home and I got both of them started. The one with the supposedly bad engine runs great, but may have some wiring issues. The other one, with the busted transmission, also runs, but will need a major carb cleaning. So I guess I might be looking for a transmission. So, does anyone know what Hydro-Gear transmission model these have? BTW, they're both the same year, 1996. |

Richard,
Yeah, I still have that 104, plus another 104 and a 122 (both non-running at this time). I also have a 125 that's been repowered with a 125. I got the first 104 running pretty good now since I replaced the carburetor. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
