I have them on a John Deere deck and I think they are great. They really speed up your mowing time as you can drive faster. I've been thinking about getting them for my 42" Cub deck too.
The double blades on your 38" deck look interesting, Sam Mac. What kind of difference do you see with this set up? And how do you keep the blades in that position? Seems like the crossed one would want to move. |

Well since Meg-Mo didn't make blades for my 38" deck with the short blades I figured since I had a set laying around I would try it and see what happened. Seemed to cut a little better. They did want to twist, thought about welding some stops on them then decided that could be a problem if they broke. Ended up going back to stock.

Sam Mac they do make them to fit my deck. The outboard blades are 16 and change and the inner blade is 17 and change (I forget the exact fraction). Apparently the 48" deck from 68-72 had different blades than the earlier model 48". I'm stoked I can't wait to try them out.

If you had a different type of stop to keep the blades from moving in relation to each other instead of welding on the blades, do you think it might have worked in the way you had desired?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
