Default How tight for deck spindle grease screws

I'm cleaning up a mower deck on a 3 spindle deck for a model 70 and I'd like to know how tight the grease fitting screws for the spindles needs to be.
The torque of the grease screw affects how smooth the spindle turns, but I don't want it to be too loose and fall out.
I reviewed a copy of the IH Rotary Mower manual, but could not find info on this.
I also searched on this forum.
thank you.

Just put 'em in snug, I'd be more concerned with them breaking off if attempting to get 'em real tight, & Ya don't want to do that. They are spring loaded to keep the grease in. If it spurts out of the fitting after you remove the GG, the spring check ball is damaged and you should replace the fitting. Examine te end of the fitting. It don't take much of a bump w/something hard to screw 'em up.

The torque on the fitting has nothing to do with the grease flow in the bearing.
It's the spring loaded ball that keeps it in. 2 or 3 strokes at regular intervals should be sufficient unless the seals (which keep the grease in the other end)are blown out in which case the grease will
practically run through and out of the bearing and won't hang around very long while in use.

I will try to get some pictures later today. I wouldn't try to tighten up too much because the spindle just wouldn't turn at that point.
I don't remember any springs in mine.
Also, if I'm understanding correctly, the grease seal needs to be seated into the deck correct?

Post a pic of what your working on. Something sounds wrong like maybe you didn't put the spacer in between the bearings. They shouldn't bind up when you tighten them up.

Sam is correct, there should be a spacer between the bearing's to prevent over tightening. Id be willing to bet there's a spacer missing or its assembled incorrectly.

It's a new to me mower, so who knows what the previous owner did.
I just took it apart to inspect, clean, and lube. I kept the parts in order as I did it.
Here are some pics. I'll get more detailed pics if needed.
thanks guys!

Well here is how it should go together. The spacer we are talking about is in red in this pic. Pretty sure the service manual for it is in the library. If not send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send it to you.

I found the culprit.
I am missing the washer that goes between the pulley and the grease seal.
I took the other side apart and found the washer and compared the good side to the diagram. The good side spins smooth and is tightened properly.
So, where can I find a washer?

I'll start calling the sponsors above.

thanks again, everyone!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
