Good to know thanks! So is there things to consider being an early production model? Any issues that were sorted out later etc?

Many thanks for answering my questions.

Good question...nothing significantly different that were major issues on the early vs later models. Check and/or replace things like driveline stuff (usually worn out), engine mounts, engine cradle modification, muffler box...there are other things but the items I have listed and the stuff others have mentioned in previous posts are the most common.

Thanks...I think it is a misprint from my reference source. Still built in December 1974.

Yes those are there, they had a soft cab attachment that apparently interfered with it.

2. crank the engine with the plug out and lying on top, touching a head bolt (or otherwise ground it) to check for spark. If no spark, pull the points cover and clean the contacts. That solves 80% of the no spark issues.

3. With a spark, put the plug back in and crank it, with some fuel squirted in the carb if needed. All of my ran at this point.

4. If it sparks and doesn't run, come back on here for more troubleshooting advice.
As far as #1 goes if I can't find an IH dealer nearby where is the next best place for carb kits and parts?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
