Well it's really a 20 footer ! I did a little touch up on it but at some point in it's life someone took some hateful grit sand paper to it and slopped on some brush paint I think still looks good till you get up close and you can see the results of someone's quick do over .

New hytran fluid and filter, reset neutral, no leaks no drips, freed up the relief valves while it was out and repaired the drive shaft couplers, expect it to run another 40 years !!!
Very Nice!! glad you got it working with recycled parts and didn't have to spend too much.. sometimes satisfaction of knowing you didn't take the easy way out is worth the extra trouble!!

Cool

There are not many parts and components that come together to form these awesome IH Cub Cadet garden tractors that can not be rebuilt, before being replaced!

Also, with the parts I sent, you know what you have, where a used pump could be a 50/50 crap-shoot in the real world where deals don't normally exist. You also got a terrific deal on a spare pump

John, that's to me the primary draw to these old machines. They were meant to last and to be repaired when something wears out. The sheer number of survivors is testament to that. It's mighty nice of you to help out as you did and I'm really glad another one is being used again!

Just to pile on, I replaced a few pistons/slippers on a hydro a couple years ago in a restoration. They fit in the cylinder block nicely, and it's back in operation and works fine. Can't say it will last another 40 years, but for my purposes, it was the expedient thing to do. On another project, I did buy a used hydrostat, and it's working fine, too.

If I were building or repairing a unit that was intended for 40 years of heavy use, I'd follow the mfg instructions not to mix up pistons/cylinders, etc.

Nice job... if I had a quarter for every time I was told not to do something because it's not the right way, or the manual says not to do that, I'd have at least 75 cents profit (because I spent the rest on curing my yellow fever ). I rebuilt a power steering cylinder a while back by cutting it open with a hacksaw, replacing the seals, and putting it back together... against all advice and everything. I've used it quite a bit and no problems yet. If you're careful and doing the job with good sourced parts, you can squeak by with undocumented/not recommended repairs.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
