Hydro line leak / replacement torque?
OK I did have to split the 105, and yes you all told me so. Grrrr. Had to replace; the input shaft seal, driveshaft, drive hub, rear coupler, rag joint, hydro filter, the hydro suction line and drained the hydro fluid. I replaced the suction line with the (later?) right angle unit. Not sure what I did wrong when I installed it, but it is leaking, and the transaxle is still empty. I tightened the fittings per the manual-finger tight then 1/4 turn. It was leaking at the fittings the next day, soooo I tightened a “little” more, maybe 1/2 turn total. Still leaking. Have I damaged the ferrules, and is there a procedure for installing/aligning the 3 piece unit ?

Where is it leaking? At the pump, or on the rear end?
Why did you replace the original line? I doubt you damaged the ferrule, but it's not uncommon for a ferrule to only seal one time. Each rear end is different, soit seals in a different place. If it is leaking at the lower nut, tighten it more. If it still leaks, get a different line, or replace the ferrules. No, there is no torque spec. No, there is no procedure for "alignment". No, thread tape or sealants will not help. |

105 hydro suction line
I replaced it because it was leaking, and to use the simpler right angle line. All 4 joints are leaking, and that is with only the residual fluid left after draining the trans. Thanks, Steve

I know the differences between the narrow frame and wide frame, but this info might still help. I just installed the suction tube to the pump on my 1450 yesterday, and I did use thread tape wrapped the correct direction on both ends of the suction tube and I doubt that I will have any leaks in these areas. I don't think you have your tube installed and aligned correctly, as they are more challenging to work around.

All 4 joints? There are only 2..... where are you getting 4?

John, on a ferrule style compression fitting, the threads do not seal. The ferrule does. Using tape is unnecessary, and will not prevent leaks.

So these ferrule style compression fittings use O rings? The information I provided talks about the ferrule style and swivel joints.

IT is a 90 deg. Elbow line with fittings at both ends, and 2 fittings at the elbow junction.

So, you are saying all 4 joints leak? If that is correct.... tighten them more. They are either going to seal or not. If they don't..... replace all the ferrules and try again. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
