Default Model 2 tiller help

Over the winter I aquired a cub cadet 127 with a model 2 tiller, mule drive , and gear box. The guy had it all hooked up once but it was taken off when I got it and being new to this I am unsure how it should all fit together. My main concern being that I started to remove the bolts to hook the gear box up because I thought it would be easy and at that time oil started to come out of the bolt holes. I'll attach some photos, the oil looks ruff and I hate doing things twice so if some of you have some photos that would help. I may also need a new gasket and a reference on what oil to use in the rear end. Thanks for the help.

That will happen.
Sounds like it's time for a new gasket, easy to make with a sheet of gasket mat'l available at any auto parts store.
Was it showing signs of leaking there before you removed the bolts?

Other than draining the rear end, if you have a lift table or some other way to elevate the rear of the tractor, it's easy to do by running the front wheels off the table and securing the tractor to the table w/the rear wheels on the end and slowly raise the table high enough so the fluid will not run out once the cover is removed.

But then you may get lucky and install the gear box and not have a leak once it is tightened back up.

DO NOT overtighten the bolts and DO NOT use bolts that are too long or risk breaking the tapped holes as they re dead end. If you break the end out inside the case you will then have BIG problems to contend with.

There was no signs of leaking before, just when I removed the bolts. But that rear end oil looks nasty and would be a good idea to take it off and clean everything out, spray it with some cleaner and what not. But I was wondering if there was a gasket I could buy that was made for this rear end. Also wondering on what oil everyone uses in their rear ends.

Got lucky and the local shop sold me one for $16.63, saves me the trouble of tracking stuff down. Now I need a filter, oil, and figure out how to hook the tiller up.

I need 7 quarts of the Hy-Tran oil and a filter, where is the best place to get it?

About $4.35 /Qt if Ya buy it by the 5/gal bucket.
Wish you were closer, I'd sell Ya some for $13/Qt.

Pick up a Wix 51410 filter, or a Napa 1410, or a filter from CCC, or IH. Not all filters meet the spec, but all the ones I listed do.
