Deck options for older in cubs
Ok I've been all over the web looking for some info on this topic. I have a 1450 I mow with. It's on its 4th 44c deck since my granddad bought it new. Last year the hydro went out and I borrowed my uncles 2185. It mowed great. The tractor sucked at everything else. The 1450 is back up and running again and this deck looks more like a quilt than a deck. Has anyone put a newer deck on the older IH tractors? If so what mods needed done? Thanks!

BTW, the correct mower deck for the 1450 would have been the 38A, 44A, or 50A. The "C" series decks were made for the 82 series tractors.

Yeah I know it should have an 44a on it but those are harder to find than the c decks. All I had to do to make the c deck work was swap the clutch off a 680 and run a 5/8 belt. Just looking to see if there was something "newer" I could rig up that would be more readily available.

Or you could have changed the drive pulley on the deck.

-----And you would have to change mule idler pulleys also.
I'm old and lazy, just change the drive pulley on the deck like Jon says. Now I will admit, the 5/8" belt system is more robust. Wondering if anyone did a comparison on longevity of the "A" belt Vs the "B" belt? Guessing IH did and decided the "B" width was better as they went to it. Possibly because of the larger HP engines made it a better match That said: A larger section width possibly contributes to more heat in the belt, during the flexing it does on 1/4 twists and pulleys. And it possibly eats fractional HP to operate. While they drive the "C" deck with a 5/8 belt, both decks operate the spindles with a 1/2" belt under the belt cover. It works well so guess they got it right. |

I had a ccc 680 for parts a while back. I took everything off of it mower deck wise and swapped it over. It worked out really well with little modification. It has a 12hp Kohler in it. I was surprised that the undercareage for the deck fit the 1450. I didn't have to do much to it to get it to work.

Yeah I haven't ever had any issues with the bigger belt with the "b" set up. I would replace the "a" drive belt every now and then.
Anyone try a deck off a cyclops? They were fairly close frame wise to the quietline series. I do have a 582 but I like the hydro and deck lift on the 1450. Thanks for the info. Sean |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
