LT1050 died & now won’t run, except on starter fluid
GF has a LT 1050 died while mowing, acted like ran out of gas but had half tank. Has new fuel pump & since i messed up solenoid, had to put new carburetor on which came with new solenoid. Fuel pump is pumping gas, solenoid is retracting when key turned on, & bowl on carb has fuel and still will not run, but will if using starter fluid. I sure hope someone can help me with this mind boggling issue. We have only one place locally that works on lawn equipment & taking it there is out of the question. They have had my John Deere 3mos so that’s that. Thank you

Did you adjust anything on new carb? Was there any junk in the fuel?

No i didn’t adjust anything on new carb. I called where i ordered it from to confirm there shouldn’t be anything to adjust for it to start and run. As for as debris in gas tank, i dint see any but all it takes is one piece. Will pick up new fuel line and check carb for debris in a few hrs. Thanks guys for your input

Pull the new fuel solenoid and turn on key. see if the plunger retracts.. You may need to ground the outer case of the solenoid. If you bought a cheap after market china carb.. could be the issue

OK. so the valve opens which means Your not pulling fuel to intake. A couple of things can cause this. Did you replace the gasket for carb? If you did, did you clean the surface real good? If your certain there is no vacuum leak then I would say either bad carb "happens frequently with certain after market junk" or there was crap in your fuel that plugged carb immediately after install and could be why it shut down in the first place. I would take the carb back off and remove the bowl and see whats in there.

The chances of this brand new carb being "junk" is nearly as impossible. I have seen a lot of bad parts out of the box, but never a carburetor. I've seen a carb have something plugging it up that likely got in it at the factory. Metal shavings, or cardboardlike material from shipping.... but never one that was just junk and had to be exchanged. Have you, cooperino, actually encountered a new carb out of the box that was bad??? The last suggestion of dirt or junk in the fuel system..... there it is. That has been the suggestion since the beginning! It is the most likely. It is the most common. It is the solution that makes the most sense, both as to what originally happened, and why the new carb didn't fix it. Let's also not rule out things like, does it have gas in the tank? Gas as in gasoline, and not accidentally diesel fuel or kerosene?? That would also cause this condition. If it was mixed, it would smell like gas...sort of... but not have high enough octane to run. Seen this many, many times. To the OP: Drain the fuel tank, flush it and the fuel lines out. Remove the carb bowl and clean it. Put new fresh gas in. Replace the filter. Push the gas through the system. Make sure the carb fills up. Try again. You might even have to take that brand new carb off and take it apart. It may have dirt stuck in the main jet. Buy it likely isn't a bad carb, and I'm sure it isn't a large vacuum leak. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
