Default Cub cadet ltx1045 won’t go in forward/reverse

Hi-

My mower has been working fine all year and yesterday I fired it up and went about 20 ft and it started to slow way down so I shut it off and restarted it. It started fine. But when I pushed the pedal down it would not go forward. I checked the pin in the rear to make sure that didn’t pop out and it was still engaged. I have looked underneath and do not see anything out of place. What I did notice is that when the hydrostatic pin is pushed in the mower still rolls freely when being pushed. Any clues on what might be going on. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Ok.... not to be a jerk, but you sure? You know the hydro drive belt is way up in there and hard to see right?

Your not being a jerk- that’s why I am on here I need the help lol. I’m assuming it’s the belt underneath the battery compartment right below the fan type thing. Certainly could be wrong.

That's correct. Does it keep turning when you press the pedal?

Well..... here's the deal. If you are sure the belt is turning the input shaft, and you are sure that the pedal linkage is hooked up, then either you are totally missing something obvious, or something went wrong internally with the trans. Only other thing I can think for you to check is the fluid level, but most of these el-cheapo tractors don't have a way to check the fluid level. Check your Owners Manual.

Outside of that.... probably time to take it to a shop, take it apart yourself and try to fix it, or buy another tractor. If you take it apart, get ready for a mess.... sometimes parts aren't available, or cheap. Maybe it stripped the splines on the input shaft or the pulley. Maybe it broke a gear. Maybe it ran out of fluid and burned up. No idea until you dig into it deeper. In my opinion, it isn't worth the time to fix if it isn't an obvious fix.

This is why basically all of us own and use 30-60 year old machines.

Good luck!

had the same problem with sltx1050 last year. prob a hydrogear hydro. check the serial # on hydro and get on their website. there was a recall on certain range of #'s. mine fell outside the range, so had to buy the parts and fix myself. prolly ran me $300 in parts. new tranny was about $700 at that point. I may have bought more than it needed too. didn't want to have to take it back apart again

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
