Red Cadet 85
In the box of NOS decals I got last week I found two complete sets of Cadet 85 decals but they have a red stripe instead of blue. I did some searching and only found one pic of a red 85 but even it has blue stripes. What color should the body be for these decals?

White or red, they will both pull a wheelie!

As far as I know: The 60 was Yellow. The 55, 75, 85, 85s and the 95 (electric) were all white.
The only difference between them was the fact that they were side discharge mowing decks with the exception of the 85s. That one had a bagger system discharge. The engines also had different hp ratings. The 60 was the only one with a Tecumseh motor. The rest had B&S motors with, of course, the exception of the 95 that was all electric. I agree with you, that red sure does look pretty. The decal issue is another matter. TractorData shows the 85 with the blue strip. I can't help you much on that. My first suspicion is that if the mower was originally white, the red strip and the "special" decals were strictly for the 85s. The photo with the blue stripe might have been ordered for an 85 and he/she ordered a set for the 85s in order to get the "special" decal. Just guessing with my two pennies. That red stripe might just blend in with the red if you, being the paint guru, match it up. |

Tim. Off hand, where did you get those NOS decals? Even a reproduction set would be good. I wouldn't mind finding a set for my 95e. Mine aren't terrible, but a spare set wouldn't hurt my feelings.

The special had a red stripe, that is what the brochure says.

I bought a box full of NOS decals and dash tins the other day, sadly most of the decals are in poor condition so I might just frame them.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
