Default Big country UTV

I recently bought my first cub cadet. It's a big country UTV that has been used and abused. I got it for a great price though. I have been looking for one of these for a few years now. My Dad has one and I really like it. When I brought it home it wouldn't start. I cleaned the wire terminals on the back of the ignition. That fixed the problem. It ran great but when I stopped it would idle down and shut off. I tried cleaning the carburetor but the screws on the bowl rounded out. I ended up replacing the carb, fuel filter, air filter, and plugs. Now it starts and runs like it should. The electronic shift quit working and the former owner replaced it with a shift knob behind the passenger seat. The rear differential didn't work. I found where he had attached a spring to keep it in constant single drive. I can take that spring off and put a different one on it pulling the lever to the front and locking both rear wheels. It works but it's a hassle. Every plastic body panel is cracked, missing, or riveted back together. I looked into new fenders but they are very expensive.

Does anyone else like these UTV's? For what I use it for it's much more useful than most of the newer trail versions. I tried searching this forum but the filter only finds posts containing the word "country". I'd like to repair the rear differential lock if possible.

After I got it running good I made some racks to haul our ladder stands.

I also use it to drag out osage logs that I make into long bows. I have a home made log sled that I use. I am working on a log loading arch trailer. It's just about done.

No I have not. I'll look it up on youtube. I was thinking about covering the fenders with hardware cloth and then putting several layers of fiberglass over that. I'm not worried about it looking smooth or professional. I just want them to catch the mud flinging off of the tires.

My dad bought one used a dozen years ago. Very handy on the farm. His plastic is pretty good. Electric dump feature is an awesome option. They built a brush guard for the front. Dad's has the Honda engine. Can't remember if it is an 18 or 20 HP?

I like how you haul your ladder stands.

Of all the pictures I have on my phone, not one good one of his Big Country.

Couple guys here have Cadet UTV's of varying ages. I run a 550 Kawasaki Mule with 1,900 hrs. You will not find anything better built or reliable. I don't like the side by sides that are good for nothing other than trail riding. Mine is for working, not running 40MPH with a cargo capacity of a picnic basket.

My Dad's has the brush guard on the front. I might weld up something similar for mine. The dump bed option would be nice. Mine has the honda 20 hp motor. I'll definitely be using it for work and not trail riding.

I looked at the Mules but couldn't find one in my price range. I bought this big country for $1200. It will come close to paying for itself with those 2 logs it hauled out.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
